Initial Assembly

The steps outlined in this section are only required if your board was purchased as a custom (non fully-loaded) order.

Attaching the Trucks

  1. Loosely secure the REAR TRUCK to the deck using 4 of the M5X25 bolts and M5 nuts supplied.
  2. Place heat shrink over the PHASE WIRES and MOTOR SENSOR WIRE and connect the wires from each motor to the extensions running from underneath the Wings. Ensure all connections are completely pressed together.
  3. Shrink the heat shrink over the wires using a heat gun, making sure to evenly distribute the heat.
  4. Remove the M5X25 bolts and replace with the wire cover pictured below using M5X40 Bolts, Aluminium Spacers and M5 Washers. Ensure no wires are trapped and tighten the bolts using a 8mm Spanner.
  5. Cable tie the heatshunk cables together and cut the excess cable tie off using side cutters.
  6. Align the FRONT TRUCK with the front of the deck and use 4 M5x25 bolts, M5 Washers and M5 Nylock Nuts to tighten the baseplate onto the deck.

Battery Installation

We currently offer three types of battery options, LiPo Packs and Li-Ion Cells (18650 & 21700). Please follow the manual accordingly.

Please take caution while proceeding with this step. Rechargeable Lithium-ion polymer batteries are potentially hazardous and can present a serious FIRE HAZARD, SERIOUS INJURY and/or PROPERTY DAMAGE if damaged, defective or improperly used.

Reccomended Battery

Classic Monster Box

LiPo Packs: 2x 6S 20Ah Packs

Li-Ion Cells: 84x 18650 Cells

Massive Monster Box

LiPo Packs: 2x 6S 20Ah Packs

Li-Ion Cells: 84x 21700 Cells

LiPo Pack Installation

  1. Remove the lid of the battery box using a T20 Screwdriver.
  2. Place opposite sides of Velcro on both the base of the box and the LiPo cell.
  3. Place the LiPo Packs down into the box making sure NO WIRES ARE BEING TRAPPED OR STRAINED.
  4. Check the LiPos are firmly in place. We recommend ‘packing out’ the box with foam tape on the lid and/or edge panels to eliminate any movement of the LiPo Packs.
  5. Connect the XT90 Connectors from the batteries into the wire harness, then plug the two remaining XT90 connectors into the VESCs as shown. Please double check against the diagram before plugging in. Incorrect wiring can result in damage to equipment or injury.
  6. Feed the BALANCE CONNECTORS and XT30 CONNECTOR through the grommets into the top of the inspection bay.
  7. Carefully, place the lid of the box back on, ensuring NO WIRES ARE BEING TRAPPED OR  STRAINED.
  8. Align the edge panels with the slots of the lid before going round and evenly tightening the bolts.

18650 or 21700 Cell Installation

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you follow the video tutorial we have made when assembling these packs.

Supplied inside the battery box, will be a separate manual also explaining the assembly and set up for the 18650 and 21000 Cell Packs.

VESC Tool

To start you’ll need to get the VESC tool software on a platform you have available to you.

The VESC Tool is available on iOS, Android, and desktop versions (Windows, Linux).

VESC TOOL DOWNLOAD

It is recommended to download the VESC Tool on a mobile device for on the go adjustments and troubleshooting.

Connecting to the VESC

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is ENABLED on your device
  2. Turn ON the board by pressing the switch on the Monster Box
  3. Open the VESC Tool App on your device
  4. Press SCAN if no devices are showing up
  5. Press CONNECT to then connect to the NRF

The NRF can also be saved as a preferred device and renamed. This is highly recommended for convenience and safety purposes, when multiple devices may be showing up.

Motor Setup Wizard

WARNING – Place board on a raised surface while using the VESC TOOL. Setting up the motors requires the motors and wheels to spin.

  1. Connect to the VESC via NRF/Bluetooth
  2. Click the Setup Motor Button
  3. Click “YES” to Load Default Parameters
  4. Select “E-Skate” ensuring that the Duty Cycle Current Limit Start has changed to 85%, followed by pressing the “Next” button.
  5. Select “Medium Outrunner”, followed by pressing “NEXT”.
  6. Battery settings are dependent on which battery option you have selected – Ensure these details are correct to prevent damage to the VESC(s) or the battery.
  7. Adjust the Motor Pulley, Wheel Pulley and Wheel Diameter according to your board’s specification – Specifications can be on the Quick Start Guide supplied with your board.
VESC Electronic Speed controller with cables

The VESC Electronic Speed Controller.

Globally renowned high quality motor controller

You will likely have come across VESC™ by now, it is very special in the field of Electronic Speed Controllers so we are very proud that our boards all come as standard with a VESC™ and VESC™ BMS.

VESC6 Mk6 HP – Quite simply a higher powered version of the VESC6 Mk6, with the same trusted reliability and ease of control. Why High Power? Because the mosfets in the HP allow more amps to run through.

VESC6 Mk6 – An incredibly reliable and high performing compact speed controller, used by over 2000 companies in many other applications across the world

VESC 6/75 – If you are using a 16s Battery Pack to power your mountainboard this controller will automatically be selected to handle the higher voltage.

Which Battery Pack?

We make battery packs for both Li-Po & Li-Ion cells.  The (S) stands for Series - adding cells in series increases voltage, The (P) stands for Parallel - adding cells in parallel increases capacity.
A higher voltage will take you faster and higher capacity will take you further. See the table below for further comparison:.

Li-Po: These cells are more expensive, however you may consider them worth it because they have less components and therefore provide easy plug and play capability as well as making it possible to do a quick battery swap. Li-Po cells also have a higher discharge performance than the Li-ion packs.

Li-ion:  Individual cells means that you have a serviceable battery pack, swapping out only the individual cells should they be damaged. These cell packs require some electrical knowledge.

We suggest that if you have limited electrical knowledge that you choose Li-Po batteries for their ease.
