The 18s BMS is a VESC based charge only battery management system. Charging up to 18 cells in series.
Other capabilities include cell balancing, charge coupling & decoupling, temperature monitoring & lots of system health checks.
The device is designed to be used with VESC products, allowing it to continuously share information about the battery state with other CAN linked devices, this ensures the battery always operates within pre-defined & acceptable limits.
The VESC motor controllers use the data from the BMS for soft power ramp-down when the cells get warm or approach end of charge which preserves the cells & avoids hard cutoffs.
This dynamic interaction sets the device apart from less sophisticated solutions without a transparent communication structure.
The BMS is managed by the VESC Tool. Features include a wide range of adjustments for the battery setup & operation as well as live monitoring & logging capabilities.

The (S) stands for Series - adding cells in series increases voltage, The (P) stands for Parallel - adding cells in parallel increases capacity.

Li-Po: These cells are more expensive, however you may consider them worth it because they have less components and therefore provide easy plug and play capability as well as making it possible to do a quick battery swap. Li-Po cells also have a higher discharge performance than the Li-ion packs.
Li-ion: Individual cells means that you have a serviceable battery pack, swapping out only the individual cells should they be damaged. These cell packs require some electrical knowledge.
We suggest that if you have limited electrical knowledge that you choose Li-Po batteries for their ease.
